Reading

We use a basal reader as the sourcebook for much of our reading practice. As students advance through the grades, they use more novel studies along with Accelerated Reader.

Writing

We utilize the 6+1 writing traits program with great success. Classes work toward publishing a polished piece of writing every quarter.

Spelling

We use a variety of publishers to aid our students in spelling accurately in all of their work. A phonetic rule-based approach is helpful, in addition to using a word wall.

Grammar

Establishing a firm base in Grammar is important to us. Our students are taught the parts of speech in the lower grades and learn to use them more effectively in the upper elementary. The A Beka curriculum provides practical usage of the skills of diagramming and rewriting.

Penmanship

Handwriting Without Tears provides the students with a solid penmanship base in the lower grades. Proper handwriting is practiced every day.

Word Study

Our vocabulary development is taught in conjunction with Reading and Spelling. The children learn to use the dictionary early, thereby expanding their vocabulary.

Word Processing

We use our computer lab research, skill building, and word processing.  Children learn to type starting in third grade, with their WPM scores tracked beginning in fourth grade.

Math

The Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Math Connects series is used throughout the elementary grades.
