Dear Parents,                                                         Friday May 28, 2010

Field Day was a fun way to wrap up our week. The weather was beautiful and the kindergarteners had a fun time teaming up with their fellow elementary students. The time spent with the first grade class on Wednesday, singing to residents at two nursing homes was so worthwhile. Many of the elderly joined in as we sang the familiar words from the Psalter Hymnal. The class was able to recite Psalm 23 in its entirety and follow up with Psalter Hymnal #38. We sang many other songs that we had learned throughout the year, too. We finished up with the children "belting out:" 'Zion Founded on the Mountain.' The activity directors at both facilities asked us to please come back next year-(or any time!). After singing, we went to the park and ate lunch. The children had worked up quite an appetite. They played on the playground with frequent stops at the fruit drink cooler for a glass of icy cold punch to quench their thirst and replace all the sweating that was going on in the 90 degree heat! When we returned to school we had just enough time to take a short, much needed rest and then read with our 3rd grade reading buddies.

Next week is a short one. We have school on Wednesday and a half day on Friday. Please have your child bring a large paper bag with handles to school on Wednesday in which to take home his school supplies. Also remember to return any library books before summer.

Let me close with saying what a privilege it was to have your child this year. They all grew so much...I think this was one of the best reading classes I have had. Encourage them to read this summer, even if it is just reviewing the mini books they collected. I look forward, Lord willing, to seeing their first grade faces as they line up for Mrs. Kooreman's class in September.

In His Service, for His Glory,

                                                            Mrs. Pettit
